Invest in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands, called by the Romans the Fortunate Isles, is the southern European territory in the Atlantic Ocean, 1.050 km away from the European continent, in front of the African northwest coast. The Canarian Archipelago is made up of seven major islands and a number of minor ones, divided into two provinces: the Province of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, comprising Gran Canaria, Fuerteaventura and Lanzarote, and the western Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, comprising Tenerife, La Palma, el Hierro and La Gomera. With a total area of 7.447 km2, the Canary Islands have a population of approximately 1,995,833 (2006). The islands more crowded are both Gran Canaria and Tenerife, which have 789.908 and 799.889 inhabitants respectively.
Due to the fact they are situated up to 4º to the Tropic of Cancer, parallel that passes by la Habana, and they are so close to the African coast and flanked by the “Alisios” winds, they have subtropical weather. Their relief variety, with high mountains and deep gullies, provokes the existence of fascinating weather diversities. In the Canary Islands, at the same time, you can find the snowing peaks and, inviting you to swim, the sunny beach.
The Islands have a great quality tourist selection. Its geographic situation, the enviable weather described as the “best weather in the world”, with annual average temperatures between 15º and 24ºC, ocean temperatures of 22ºC in summer and 19º in winter, with a solar average radiation of 3,72 kw/h/m2/day, together with its beauty landscape and quality services, have turned them into one of the most excellent European tourist destinations. Just in 2005, there were more than 9 million of tourists.
The archipelago’s privileged weather allows you to practise all kinds of sports all the year, emphasizing outdoor activities such as golf, swimming, sailing, riding, hiking and mountaineering, fishing, tennis… The beauty and variety of the Canarian landscape are in a special protection. Four of the thirteen Spanish National Parks are in the Canary Islands. A privileged natural environment and the lack of pollution allow you to carry out unique activities like cetacean seeing, skin-diving or seeing the stars.
